In our one-of-a-kind process art workshops, your child can explore their imagination with other quirky kiddos in our cozy, sensory-friendly studio.

Hang on... what is this joyful place?

How are our workshops different from TYPICAL art classes?

How are our workshops different from TYPICAl art classes?

Our creative play is open-ended and might look like total nonsense ("What can we make with these pool noodle slices and toothpicks?"). We're fueled by our curiosity and choices, and there's no "right way" to make art here. This is process art.

Our workshops are small, so each kiddo feels they matter. I have time to treat their ideas and their feelings with dignity. Together, we build a sense of trust – in ourselves and one another. We all belong here.

Your kiddo can choose between a solo activity, a group activity (where we learn how to "braid our ideas together"), and a sensory activity. We then clean up the studio together and end with story time.

We prioritize reused and repurposed materials that can be reused, recycled, or composted when we're done. We often source these from our sweet neighbours and local businesses.

We share some of our big group creations with the elders & staff of the Manoir Beaconsfield, which is down the street from our studio.

Your kiddo will finish the season with a paper-bag portfolio stuffed with gorgeous, wacky creations that sprung directly from their imaginations, not mine. And they'll know that they've been – and always will be – artists.

What story books do we read?

What story books do we read?

community

creativity

connection

inspiration, questioning the status quo, innovation, mistakes, failure, perseverance, frustration, joy

Our library is bursting with gorgeous, age-appropriate picture books about:

to family & friends,
to animals, to the planet, our similarities & differences, fights & forgiveness

the power of art to bring people together, art as activism, art as a bridge between generations & across cultures

Some of our books touch on stuff like living a neuro-affirming life, body neutrality, gender identity, and anti-racism. These issues inform how they feel about themselves, how they express themselves, and how they connect, disconnect, and reconnect with others.

These books spark rich conversations about our own experiences – and expose us to new ones too. We might disagree with one another, and that's ok. Disagreement, and even conflicts, are important parts of being in community.

If these kinds of books and conversations don't align with your parenting, Atelier Spark won't be a good fit for your kiddo.

is atelier Spark a good fit for my kiddo?

is atelier Spark a good fit for my kiddo?

Process art is for everyone, but Atelier Spark isn't. So ask yourself:

no, stairs are inaccessibleyup, let's do this!
3. Can my kiddo follow safety instructions? Can my kiddo honour their own and others' personal space, artwork, and ideas?

1. Can my kiddo access Lindsay's basement studio?
2. Does my kiddo want to creatively play next to and with other kiddos?

4. Am I comfortable with my kiddo listening to and discussing the story books in the Atelier Spark library (see above)?

nope, I think another PLace would be a better fit

If you answered "no" to 2, 3, or 4, then another place would be a better fit.

wait... who's lindsay?

wait... who's lindsay?

That's me! My name is Lindsay Cornish (she/her/hers) and I've been running Atelier Spark since 2022.

My top 3 Jeopardy categories would be:

  • Being an elementary teacher AND not wanting to teach in a typical classroom
  • Kids' creative development
  • Parenting a neurosparkly kiddo while also being neurodivergent*

So what does that mean for your family? In my studio, your kiddo will be:

  • respected and celebrated for their unique way of being in the world,
  • excited to come to the studio each week because I balance structure, predictability, with a tiny bit of chaos and silliness, and
  • included in a wee community of creative souls who really see and care about them.

* My other three would be pop lyrics of the 80s and early 90s, world geography, and rhyme time. What about you?

yes please!
